Reducing deprivation for children in poverty

Children and youth in poverty must have fewer deprivations and improved opportunities to thrive, learn, and be part of the community – within their families, schools, and leisure activities. We work to mitigate the negative consequences of growing up in poverty.

Growing up in economic poverty can have negative consequences for the well-being and life trajectory of children and youth. Many children and youth in poverty experience being excluded from important social networks and have poorer well-being compared to their peers. They receive lower grades in school and fewer start upper secondary education.

Poverty can leave deep and long-lasting negative impacts. That is why we work to alleviate children's material deprivations and provide them with better opportunities to be part of strong communities. We strive for them to have positive experiences with their families, engage in leisure activities that interest them and bring joy to their everyday lives. Additionally, we aim for them to participate fully in school, learn, and develop on equal terms with their peers.

Objectives:

  • Children and youth in economic poverty experience fewer material deprivations.

  • Children and youth in economic poverty have better opportunities to participate in activities and communities, both in school, in leisure time, and with their families.
