Equal opportunities for children in poverty

Children in poverty should have the same opportunities as other children. We strive to ensure that children and young people in poverty thrive, learn and are part of the community. Both in and outside school.

Every day, children in poverty have to do without healthy food, leisure activities, summer holidays – or the computer they need to do their schoolwork.

Growing up in financial poverty has significant consequences for the well-being and life trajectory of children and young people. Many children and young people in poverty experience being outside the crucial children’s communities and thrive less than others. They get worse grades in school. And they tend not to start a youth education. Poverty leaves long-lasting marks.

We support organisations and initiatives that work to ensure that:

  • Children in poverty can be part of the children’s communities like other children.

  • Children living in difficult conditions can take part in a leisure activity of their choice

  • Children in poverty can participate in schoolwork on equal terms with their peers

  • Young people living in difficult conditions can have an after-school job.

  • Children and young people are shown a path out of poverty.
