Enhanced participation and empowerment
We work to ensure that more children and youth at risk are listened to, feel empowered, and are actively participate in the development of initiatives that concern them and their lives.
Children and youth at risk are not adequately seen and heard. Often, they do not participate in the development of solutions concerning their own lives.
When adults listen to children and young people, it strengthens their self-confidence, autonomy, empowerment and ability to take action. Efforts and decisions benefiting children and young people improve when they themselves participate in development and testing.
In recent years, there has been increasing focus on the right of children and youth to participate. For example, organizations, the Danish government, foundations, and the Nordic Council of Ministers now consult with children and youth when making important decisions. And the Child's Act in Denmark means that more children and young people must be heard and actively participate in their own case with the authorities.
Egmont wants to contribute to this positive development. Therefore, we support efforts that ensure that more children and young people at risk are listened to by professionals and decision-makers. And we support organizations where young people at risk participate in the development and co-creation of initiatives that have an impact on their lives.
Objectives:
Children and young people facing difficult living conditions are seen, heard, and listened to when professionals and decision-makers make decisions concerning their lives.
Young people at risk participate as co-developers of initiatives and frameworks that concern them and their lives, such as in schools, the education system, leisure activities, and social interventions.
