UNDER SANDET (LAND OF MINE) gets major US breakthrough

18.09.2015

Several months before release, UNDER SANDET has received international attention among film critics and the major merchants at the Toronto Film Festival.

UNDER SANDET (international titel: LAND OF MINE) has taken the audience and the international film by storm during the week-long festival in Toronto. It has played full houses in Toronto's cinemas and received overwhelming enthusiastic reviews in the leading international film magazines, to such an extent that the interest in buying the Danish film has exploded.

- In the last three days we have negotiated with the largest US distributors and tonight signed a contract with the prestigious and influential American company, Sony Pictures Classics, who bought the distribution rights for the US and Latin American markets, says the producer of UNDER SANDET Mikael Rieks, Nordisk Film Production.

- It's not just Americans and Canadians who love UNDER SANDET. Also movies merchants from other parts of the world have been queuing up to acquire rights. Yesterday we closed agreements for the distribution in Australia, Japan and the Middle East. The agreement with Sony Pictures Classics has secured the best possible opportunities for a big launch on the American continent. It is a huge breakthrough for Martin Zandvliet as a director and we can conclude that UNDER SANDET already is a success before it even hits the Danish cinemas, Mikael Rieks adds.

- To obtain a large and recognized company like Sony Pictures Classics to invest in ensuring a foreign film high visibility and presence in the American film market is remarkable. It has an invaluable significance for us here and now, but also for our future Danish film, says Mikael Rieks, Nordisk Film Production, who also expects further interest after the film magazine Hollywood Reporter yesterday proclaimed UNDER SANDET to be the most interesting foreign film,“a moving anti-war essay and a gripping thriller” in the festival's program.
