TV 2 to broadcast Champions League for the next five seasons
Egmont-owned Norwegian broadcaster TV 2 has secured the rights to broadcast the Champions League for four more years. Champions League football will therefore continue on TV 2 all the way through to 2031.
”This is quite simply the best football in the world, and interest in Norway has only grown further in recent years,” says TV s’s Editor-in-Chief and CEO Olav T. Sandnes.
TV 2 has held exclusive rights to broadcast the Champions League since 2021. The new agreement comes into effect from autumn 2027 and runs until summer 2031. The announcement comes just a short time after TV 2 secured the rights to Eliteserien and Toppserien through to 2034.
“It is only a couple of weeks since TV 2 extended its rights to Norwegian football, and today we can confirm that TV 2 will also broadcast the Champions League for the next five seasons,” says Sandnes. “Taken together, this gives us a long-term stability we have never had before, and we are truly looking forward to further developing this magnificent football tournament across our platforms.”
Norway’s biggest football stars play a central role in the world’s most prestigious football tournament. This year also saw a Norwegian club return to the Champions League for the first time in 18 years.
“This Champions League season has given us some extraordinary football moments, with Norwegian players in key roles. Just this week we witnessed a semi-final between PSG and Bayern Munich that may well go down as one of the greatest and most entertaining football matches of all time. But the undoubted highlight of the season from a Norwegian perspective has been Bodø Glimt’s remarkable performances.”
Next season, both Viking and Bodø Glimt have the opportunity to qualify. It is also already confirmed that both Erling Braut Haaland’s Manchester City and Martin Ødegaard’s Arsenal have qualified.
“With the Champions League on the menu, the football year on TV 2 is complete. Viewers will get the world's best club tournament in the winter months, the very best of Norwegian football in the summer months on both the women's and men's sides, and we will also be showing both national teams, as well as the European Championship and the World Cup throughout the year. There is everything to look forward to,” says Sandnes.
All matches from the Champions League season will be available on TV 2 Play, whilst selected matches will be shown on TV 2 Sport 1. The final will be broadcast on the main channel TV 2 Direkte.
