“We are experiencing tremendous interest in the Champions League, and we look forward to further developing this fantastic football tournament on our platforms. This is a great day for us at TV 2,” says Editor-in-Chief and CEO Olav T. Sandnes.

TV 2 has had exclusive rights to show the Champions League since 2021. The new agreement applies from the coming season and lasts until the summer of 2027.

“We secured these rights despite strong competition from other players. We can't comment on the cost of this, other than to say that such rights are not sold on the cheap,” says Sandnes.

Norway's biggest football stars Erling Braut Haaland and Martin Ødegaard play a central role in the world's most prestigious football tournament.

“This Champions League season has so far given us some fantastic football moments with Norwegian profiles in key roles. Right now, Erling Braut Haaland is on one of the biggest stages in Madrid, while Martin Ødegaard is fronting Arsenal in London. Both Real Madrid-Manchester City and Arsenal-Bayern Munich are incredible matches with Norwegians in crucial roles,” says Olav T. Sandnes.

The Champions League will have a completely new format this autumn. The number of matches in the tournament will increase from 125 to 189, the number of teams will be increased from 32 to 36 and there will be more decisive matches.

“It was particularly important to secure the Champions League now that they are introducing an expanded format that will give the world's best club tournament an even more prominent position in the football calendar. There will be more teams, more matches and more weeks of the world's best football. The excitement will be greater than ever, with a completely new league format where every match counts down to the last before the play-offs. With the Champions League in January, the football year on TV 2 will be complete! Viewers get the world's best club tournament in the winter, Norwegian top and grassroots football in the summer - and in addition we show the national team, the European Championship and World Cup in football and LaLiga throughout the year.”

All matches from the Champions League season will be available on TV 2 Play. In addition, two matches a week will be shown on TV 2 Sport 1. The final will be broadcast on the main channel TV 2 Direkte.
