Nordisk Film and Egmont welcome new production rebate agreement
The agreement between the Danish government, the Green Left (SF) and the Social Liberal Party (de Radikale) on a new production rebate will be crucial for increasing film and series production in Denmark in future. The parties have listened to the needs of a struggling film industry, says Egmont-owned Nordisk Film.
Today, the Danish government, the Green Left (SF) and the Social Liberal Party (de Radikale) announced an agreement on an annual production rebate of DKK 125 million for film and series production. Katrine Vogelsang, CEO of Nordisk Film Production, is pleased with the agreement:
“It's fantastic that Denmark is now getting a tax refund scheme that will open the doors for ambitious Danish film projects and make Denmark an attractive film country for international productions. This means growth, jobs and, not least, a possible boost to the competences in our film industry. At Nordisk Film, we also believe that it will lead to even more activity on our large, international LED stage in Valby. THANK YOU to the Minister of Culture and all the conciliation parties for the good political work!”
Under the new scheme, film and series productions can be reimbursed for 25 per cent of their expenses in exchange for providing large, multi-million-dollar budgets that are spent on Danish locations and that support Danish talent and labour who pay taxes in Denmark.
Since the summer of 2023, Nordisk Film and its owner Egmont have been part of the Alliance for Production Rebates, where a united film industry and business organisations such as the Danish Chamber of Commerce and SMV Denmark have called for a production rebate, as Denmark was the only country in Europe without one.
