Winter Olympics break TV2 Norway viewer records

Egmont-owned TV2 Norway broke all its records – on TV as well as digitally – with the opening weekend of the Winter Olympics in Russia. At the peak 89.5 percent of all Norwegian TV-viewers were watching TV2 Norway.

Saturday and Sunday in the opening weekend of the Winter Olympics in Sochi were the most viewed single days in the history of TV2 Norway. Cross country for men was especially a hit, as more than 1.5 million viewers at its highest were watching this discipline on TV2 Norway.

"It has been a wonderful start, far better than we expected. There has always been a tradition for watching the Winter Olympics in Norway, but these numbers are astronomic," says communication manager at TV2 Norway Jan-Petter Dahl.

He is currently in Russia along with 144 other employees of TV2 working to provide the best possible coverage for the Norwegians on the Winter Olympics 2014.

Jan-Petter Dahl also reports that there was a record-breaking amount of video streaming during the opening weekend. He is expecting further digital record-breaking during the week, where the traditional TV coverage gets competition from work and other daytime activities.
