Thomas the Tank Engine steams ahead with digital publishing

Egmont Publishing Group has launched the first four Classic Railway Series titles as iBooks. The Three Railway Engines, Thomas the Tank Engine, James the Red Engine and Tank Engine Thomas Again are the first four titles in the Classic Railway Series to be made available on the Apple Store.

Written by the late Reverend W. Awdry and beautifully illustrated by C. Reginald Dalby these digital versions stay true to the original stories and visually reflect the quality of the original books.

David Riley, Managing Director, Egmont Publishing Group commented: "We are passionate about delivering the right content on the right platforms to reach our consumers. Characters like Thomas the Tank Engine have been inspiring children to read for years and we hope to reach new generations with the launch of our iBooks."

Christopher Awdry said: "We never dreamed that the stories our father read to us at mealtimes would come to be known throughout the world and loved by generations of children 67 years later and we are delighted that they can now be downloaded digitally for even more fans to enjoy. Father would have been very surprised by that and we are very proud of him."

Also out in iBook format this month, from Egmont's award-winning 10-Minute Tales range, are: ZhuZhu Pets®: Quest for Zhu, Everything's Rosie: The Special Invitation, Timmy Time: Timmy's Jigsaw and Waybuloo: Whizzcrackers! Parents and children will now be able to enjoy spending 10 minutes a day reading an iBook with their child.

Egmont UK has a growing portfolio of digital publishing which includes: the first Flips books for Nintendo DS, apps for iPhone and iPad, ebooks and enhanced ebooks, iBooks and online virtual worlds.
