TV 2 prolongs exclusive Premier League-rights

TV 2 has acquired the exclusive rights to Barclays Premier League through the 2015-2016-season. This ensures the development and positioning in the Norwegian market for pay-tv.

"Premier League is the most important pay TV rights in Norway. With this deal TV 2 has ensured the rights the next four years. This will provide stability for TV 2s customers and ensure the development and positioning in the market for pay TV," says Hans Carstensen, chairman in TV 2 and Chief Financial Officer in Egmont. "It is a great day for TV 2. This deal ensures a long term investment in the popular Premier League product in Norway," says CEO in TV 2, Alf Hildrum.

TV 2 acquired the Norwegian rights for Barclays Premier League in the 2010-2011-season. With one season left of the existing agreement, TV 2 now holds the rights for the next four seasons.

"We knew that Barclays Premier League has a unique position in Norway, but the interest for the product has been overwhelming from the beginning. We have delivered a TV product that the numerous fans of English football have appreciated. Now that we know, we have the rights for many years to follow, it will give us the opportunity to further develop our coverage," says TV 2s Sports Chief Bjørn Taalesen.

TV 2s new agreement is identical with the existing agreement with FA Premier League and ensures a wide coverage of Barclays Premier league on all TV 2s media platforms.

"The agreement ensures the position of TV 2 in the important premium market for pay TV many years ahead and is therefore essential for TV 2s position in the Norwegian market," says Alf Hildrum.
