"The competition to attract viewers increased significantly in 2012 and that is why I am especially content that we managed to stabilize our ratings for the main channel TV 2 after several years of decline," says Editor in Chief and CEO Alf Hildrum.

TV 2 had a large growth in expenses in 2012 because of an increased focus on unique content on more channels and platforms. That has also resulted in an increased income and TV 2 reached a historic milestone when the income from commercials surpassed 2 billion Norwegian Kroner.

Fine growth in commercials and user charges

The operating income of 3.441 million in 2012 is the highest in the company's history. Compared to last year it is a growth of 244 million, which amounts to an increase of 7,6 percent. The revenue from commercials amounted to a total of 2.050 million for TV and web. The growth is at 101 million, which amounts to an increase of 5,2 %. Other earnings, which include user charges and income from distributions, rose by 143 million from 1.248 to 1.391 million Norwegian Kroner.

The operating expenses increased from 2.712 million in 2011 to 3.024 million in 2012, which is an increase of 312 million. The growth can mainly be attributed to an increased focus on content for all channels and other strategic priorities such as TV 2 Sumo. This has contributed to the fact that the main channel TV 2 stabilized its share of viewers in 2012, and there are clear signs pointing towards growth for the channel in 2013. Furthermore, the venture with English football has resulted in new records for user charges on TV and web. Sumo surpassed 100.000 subscribers for the first time in the autumn of 2012 and continues to grow in 2013.

"Even though the operating profit is lower in 2012 than in 2011 it is still second best in the history of the company and TV 2 is well positioned for further growth," says CFO Maria Borch Helsengreen.
