Film

Egmont is the largest film producer in the Nordic countries. Through Nordisk Film and a series of co-owned companies, we produce, distribute, and market films and TV series throughout the Nordic region.

From nurturing talent, preparing scripts, shooting film, marketing and selling tickets to delivering the final product – the thrill of anticipation in a darkened cinema as a new release begins: Egmont is there every step of the way.

We produce feature films with broad audience appeal such as The Reunion and Department Q-films in Denmark, and The 12th Man, The Wave, and The Quake in Norway. Nordisk Film, owned by Egmont, has achieved broad international recognition with a variety of films, such as A War and Land of Mine, both of which received Oscar nominations. Additionally, many of the leading Nordic filmmakers make films at Nordisk Film or our joint-venture companies, such as Zentropa.

Some successful new Danish films include Billie August’s highly acclaimed A Fortunate Man, Ole Bornedal’s biopic The Way to Mandalay, and Gustav Möller’s The Guilty.

Nordisk Film has film departments in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland, and works closely with international partners. In collaboration with the international film companies Lionsgate, Amblin/Dreamworks, and Participant Media, Nordisk Film is behind the launching of many popular American films in Nordic markets. Nordisk Film also collaborates with the Hollywood-giant 20th Century Fox to release the company’s films in the Nordic region.

Egmont companies have been part of the cinematic landscape ever since the film industry began, producing landmark films that have become indelible parts of Danish film history – for example, the series of films about the small-time criminals The Olsen Gang and the TV series Huset på Christianshavn and Matador.
