Egmont acquires Nordic e-commerce company

28.11.2017

New investment secures the last 40 percent of the successful Nordic e-commerce company Bageren og Kokken for Egmont Publishing

By investing an amount in the tens of millions, Egmont secures the last 40 percent – and by this full ownership of one of the Nordic countries’ biggest webshops for high-end kitchenware; Bageren og Kokken.

In 2014, Egmont Publishing invested in the company for the first time and has clear ambitions:

”This is an area of high interest which fits very well into our strategy. We want to have the leading position in the Nordic countries, and we are ready to spend the necessary resources in this respect,” says CEO of Egmont Publishing Torsten Bjerre Rasmussen.

Significant growth
Bageren og Kokken was founded in 2005, and from the beginning the company has had significant growth. Today, Bageren og Kokken is present in the Danish, Swedish and Norwegian markets, and the growth rate increases every year. Most recently, Black Week saw a doubling of the turnover compared to last year.

In October this year, Robert Henricson took over as CEO from the founder Ulf Kihlberg, who has now sold his last 40 per cent of the company.

”First and foremost, Ulf and Hanna Kihlberg deserve the honour of having founded and bet so strongly on the company which means that today it is well-stocked, popular and financially healthy,” Torsten Bjerre Rasmussen says.

Long-term approach
The fact that Hanna and Ulf Kihlberg specifically chose to sell to Egmont is not only due to the high ambitions of Bageren og Kokken that started with an office in the basement of the couple’s villa in Gothenburg:

”Hanna and I have been on an exciting and educational journey. We are proud of what we have built up, and we are confident that through its long-term approach, Egmont will continue to be a very good owner," Ulf Kihlberg says.
