The world is constantly changing, and we are facing important questions about society, culture, and media. At this year’s Folkemøde, Egmont delves into Danish film and literature, discusses the role of news media, and explores the significance of cultural heritage. We look at how children and youth at risk navigate life’s choices, what screen culture means for our society, and how we can ensure strong education for the future. Along the way, we touch on both the big picture and the close-up details. Look forward to exciting conversations, debates, and perspectives as a lineup of actors, authors, politicians, journalists, experts, and cultural figures take the stage at Egmont’s two venues Baghaven and Terrassen in Havnegade 9, G28, Allinge, Friday 13th of June.

We bring together politicians and gamers from the gaming industry for an engaging conversation about what computer games and the Danish gaming industry can do. How can we exploit the gaming industry's potential to strengthen Denmark, and what positive effects do games have?

Rasmus Tandholdt
At the Forefront When the World Collapses / 10:45—11:15 / Baghaven

/ Rasmus Tantholdt

For over 20 years, correspondent Rasmus Tantholdt has covered wars, conflicts, and disasters in the world's hotspots. Euroman's editor-in-chief Kristoffer Dahy Ernst meets the correspondent for a conversation about a world that is faltering – and about finding your footing in it.

Portrait of speakers to Trivsel under lup programpunkt
Flourishing Under Scrutiny / 11:00—11:30 / Terrassen

/ Petra Nagel / Ane Qvortrup / Carl Emil Lind Christensen / Sara Emil Baaring / Aksel Justesen

Analyses show that young people in primary and secondary schools thrive mentally and socially, but there is a need to increase their professional well-being, which scores low. What can help increase professional well-being? And what can contribute to greater trust in one's own abilities to master the profession? What do the experts say? And what do the young people themselves say?

Jakob-Engel-Schmidt portrait
Euroman Meets the Power / 11:30—12:00 / Baghaven

/ Jakob Engel-Schmidt

Powerful. That is Minister of Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt. And he uses that power frequently. In recent years, the minister has made numerous political agreements and injected fresh millions into the cultural sector. Euroman's editor-in-chief Kristoffer Dahy Ernst meets the man and minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt for a talk about being in the center of power, about the value of culture, and especially about what it means to be a cultural person without a cultural-political background.

Maren Uthaug og Petra Nagel Folkemødet mosaik
What Do We Need Men For? / 12:15—12:45 / Baghaven

/ Maren Uthaug / Petra Nagel

A lot of men are angry with Maren Uthaug. Perhaps because in her books she reduces them to breeding animals and gives women the power that men otherwise possess. Is the future brighter without men, and is equality even possible? That is the focus of this conversation between author Maren Uthaug and journalist Petra Nagel.

Portrait of cultural heritage speakers
The Role of Culture in Danish Cultural Heritage / 13:00—13:30 / Baghaven

/ Jakob Engel-Schmidt / Ghita Nørby / Kristoffer Eriknauer

Communal singing, H.C. Andersen's fairy tales, revue, and Bournonville ballet. What role does culture actually play in our Danish cultural heritage? Actress and cultural icon Ghita Nørby, Minister of Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt, and acting talent and TikTok star Kristoffer Eriknauer give their perspectives on the role culture plays in our Danish cultural heritage. Ghita Nørby: that name is introduction enough for most Danes in itself. With her long career as a leading lady in Danish film, theater, and television, the honored actress could herself be on the list of intangible cultural heritage. Together with Minister for Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt and journalist Søren Ryge, she has instead formed the mini-committee that has selected their suggestions for what should represent Denmark on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage. Kristoffer Eriknauer is on the cast list here, there, and everywhere: The Royal Theater, major TV series, and not least his own funny videos on TikTok, just to name a few.

Mød tv-stationernes nyhedsgeneraler Folkemødet mosaik
Meet the TV Stations' News Generals / 13:45—14:15 / Baghaven

/ Ulla Pors Nielsen / Sandy French / Karianne Solbrække / Niels Krause-Kjær

In Norway, Egmont is behind the public service media house TV 2, which fulfills the same role in Norwegian society as Danish TV 2 and DR do here. All three deliver news reporting and public service in a time when media consumption is increasingly individualized, the supply is greater than ever, and fake news challenges trust in our society. So how do TV stations ensure their credibility, quality and reach in the fast-paced news flow? How do they themselves avoid bias in a more polarized world? And is it even possible to engage the younger generations in something as old-fashioned as TV news?

Portrait of speakers regarding reading crisis
Is the Reading Crisis Among Children and Young People Also a Democratic Problem? / 14:45—15:30 / Terrassen

/ Rane Willerslev / Anne Sophia Hermansen / Magnus Hermann / Mastarn Bandian

Can you participate in democracy if you don’t read? The reading crisis among children and young people demands answers. The world is changing rapidly, and democracy is under pressure. At the same time, reading motivation among youth is plummeting. Denmark ranks at the very bottom internationally when it comes to reading enjoyment among schoolchildren, and more and more young people are leaving compulsory school without reading well enough to pass their final exams — especially those growing up at risk. But what does reading enjoyment mean for democracy, and for young people's ability to participate and influence? And should we do more to support the joy of reading among children and youth in difficult living conditions? These are the questions we’ll explore when two generations meet for a conversation about the impact of the reading crisis — particularly on those growing up at risk.

Billed af Kristoffer Dahy Ernest og Martin Kongstad
Martin Kongstad and the Gastronomic Miracle of Bornholm / 15:45—16:15 / Terrassen

Kristoffer Dahy Ernst/ Martin Kongstad

Gastronomy is flourishing on Bornholm. What is the reason for this, and what does it mean for the island, the islanders, the tourists and, not least, for good taste? Gastro magazine editor-in-chief Kristoffer Dahy Ernst has invited Martin Kongstad onto Egmont's stage for a conversation about the Bornholm gastro miracle, where Kadeau and Nordlandet have been among the frontrunners. Martin Kongstad, who hosts the popular gastro podcast "Bearnaise is the king of the animals", will give his personal take on how Bornholm has developed on the gastro front. There will be lots of funny robber stories and clever Bornholm tips, while we learn more about where Solskinsøen's food scene is heading.

Rejseholdet Folkemødet mosaik
Rejseholdet – When Fiction Meets Reality / 15:30—16:00 / Baghaven

/ Christoffer Boe / Nicolaj Kopernikus / Bent Isager-Nielsen / Lone Theils

”Rejseholdet – det første mord” is an upcoming blockbuster film from Nordisk Film directed by Christoffer Boe and starring Nicolaj Kopernikus. The film goes back in time to the 1920s, when the first travel team is established and must solve a murder mystery in Esbjerg. The Travel Team has inspired films and TV series. On Egmont’s stage, we will discuss the Travel Team and the borderland between fact and fiction.

Portrait of speakers in film debate
How Can Danish Film Resonate with All Danes? / 16:15—17:00 / Baghaven

/ Tine Fischer / Mathias Broe / Jan E. Jørgensen / Asger Flygare / Louise Vesth / Anders Leifer / Pernille Fischer Christensen

With the media and film agreements from last year and with the agreement on a production discount, the financial framework for Danish film has been set. The ambitions are great, because Danish film must be a unifying force. At the same time, however, the fragmentation and the fight for Danes' time have never been greater. So how do Danish films remain - or become - relevant for everyone? Is the film industry in sync with the Danish audience? How do we get more large and broad films with artistic quality? And is there even room for the free voice of film storytellers and new talents?

Den utrolige verden omkring os Folkemødet mosaik

Media, heritage, film, literature, society, community, stories, education and screen culture.
