Triple Success for Ternet Ninja

Ternet Ninja 3 is being hailed by critics as everything from ‘a masterpiece’ to ‘a triumph’, bringing a worthy conclusion to Anders Matthesen’s wildly popular ninja trilogy.

Strong stories

It is rare for a third installment in a film series to sell 500,000 tickets within four weeks of its premiere. But things are different when you are a checkered ninja beloved by the public.

Cille Neumann, Marketing Director at Nordisk Film Distribution, is not surprised by the Danish audience’s enthusiastic reception of the third film featuring the sharp-tongued ninja.

In Ternet Ninja 3, we follow Aske, whose teenage brain is preoccupied with anything but ninja missions. The Checkered Ninja is not impressed and launches a determined search for a new mission to get Aske back on track. Before long, Aske finds himself entangled in a conflict with Jessica’s bad-boy boyfriend, Marco. At the same time, he forms a new friendship with Emily, the new girl in town, much to Jessica’s jealousy. On top of it all, Aske’s stepdad Jørn begins taking his role a little too seriously, adding even more pressure.

The first two Ternet Ninja films each drew over 900,000 moviegoers in Denmark, roughly one in six Danes. The first Ternet Ninja still holds the record as the highest-grossing Danish film of all time. As of October 2025, the final film in the trilogy has already sold nearly 700,000 tickets, putting it well on track to rival the success of its predecessors.

According to Cille Neumann, there is one key reason the third film is also performing so well:

Anders Matthesen hasn’t just made a fantastic movie, he’s done a remarkable job getting the film’s message out to the public.
