Sally's Dad Is in Top Form

The "Sally's Dad" series, which currently includes 16 books, has reached an impressive sales figure of 3 million across all formats and is popular in bookstores, libraries, and on streaming services.

Strong stories

The series about Sally and Sally's Dad was created 10 years ago by author Thomas Brunstrøm and illustrator Thorbjørn Christoffersen. The idea for the father with the slightly-too-tight jeans, heavy metal T-shirts, and his own unique approach to parenting arose when the two friends agreed that there was a lack of fathers in children's literature with whom they could identify. They missed a present father who enjoyed playing, joking around, and actively participating in his children's lives. So, they had to create the book that was missing, and that became "Sally's Dad."

On the occasion of the release of the 16th and latest book in the series, Sally's Dad Is in Top Form, the authors were celebrated at the Carlsen publishing house. Here, Kaya Hoff, publishing director for Carlsen, stated: "According to Statistics Denmark, there are approximately 600,000 children under 10 years old in Denmark. So, every single child under ten has read or listened to a 'Sally's Dad' book five times. And that is actually an underestimate, because I'm sure every one of the many thousands of physical 'Sally's Dad' books found in Danish homes and libraries has been read countless times. I truly believe that!"

Kaya Hoff has never before experienced such high sales for a picture book series. "I understand the success because the series offers something very special. It truly resonates with the entire family and is funny and entertaining for both children and adults. They may not laugh at the same things, but they laugh together."

Carlsen Publishing is Denmark's largest children's book publisher, having published children's and young adult literature since 1942. Their program includes classic tales like "Rasmus Klump" and "Peter Pedal" as well as newer authors such as Sebastian Klein, Sarah Engell, Jakob Riising, Kristina Aamand, Oliver Jeffers, and Patrick Ness.

Carlsen Publishing is part of the Publishing House, Lindhardt & Ringhof, which is owned by Egmont.
