Outnorth would rather repair and recycle than throw anything out

Every day, Egmont’s e-commerce businesses send out thousands of items to customers. Occasionally, items are returned because they are not the right size or style, are wrong or perhaps have a minor defect. But Outnorth makes sure that all products that are returned are either resold or used in other ways.

Sustainability

Outnorth specialises in clothing and equipment for Nordic outdoor life, and at its central warehouse in Gothenburg, return goods are handled according to the condition in which they are returned. Most products can be put straight back into the warehouse and sold again, other products must be given new packaging and some are put up for sale on the Reuse recycling channel on Outnorth’s Swedish website Outnorth.se in collaboration with reCRQL.

“It’s a solution where customers can easily sell any items they’ve bought on Outnorth. We will also sell items that have been returned and cannot sell as new,” says Viktor Höjman, Sustainability Manager at Outnordic, which includes the companies Fjellsport, Outnorth, Skitt Fiske and Skitt Jakt.

On the Outnorth Reuse website, customers in Sweden can buy and sell used clothing, shoes and equipment. Outnorth also collaborates with external players who help resell products with minor defects. And then there are the products that cannot be repaired or resold, but can still be used, and those are donated.

“We cooperate with the Swedish Red Cross, which sell products in their thrift shops, as well as with the church organisation Kirkens Bymission and BUA in Norway – BUA makes it possible for children to borrow equipment for sports and outdoor activities,” adds Höjman.

All this meets Outnordic’s objective that no item should be destroyed or thrown away.
