More youth, less disease
All young people with a chronic illness should have a good teenage life and be able to complete a youth education. We work for chronically ill young people through Egmont’s signature programme StayStrong (in Danish SygtStærk).
Teenage life is often different for young people living with a chronic or serious illness. Many may at times feel socially isolated and being left outside the important youth communities. Young people with chronic or serious illness are at greater risk of self-harm, anxiety and depression. And 25% of chronically ill young people aged 19-21 do not complete a youth education, a number that is 15% for all other young people.
Through our signature programme StayStrong, we work to ensure that:
Young people can learn from and with each other and build relationships.
Social and personal skills are strengthened through group programmes and camps.
Educational issues associated with learning gaps and absenteeism are handled.
StayStrong is currently the only initiative targeting young people with an illness that Egmont supports.
A signature programme is an ambitious, innovative and long-term initiative initiated by Egmont with the ambition that the project will eventually be continued by a wider circle of partners. Over the years, Egmont has initiated several signature programmes, most recently Learn for Life in 2012, which is now an independent organisation.
