You almost forget where you are

A prison is not just about imprisonment. At Ringe State Penitentiary, the Egmont Foundation has worked on improving the exercise yards. This is a benefit to both staff and inmates.

The State Prison in Ringe has built a new attractive and constructive multifunctional exercise yard on its premises. It accommodates a leisure- and education - project, giving the young inmates an opportunity for daily exercise, and the chance to enhance their competencies. Finally it should improve their chances of a crime-free life, after their release.

The project has two aims: Firstly, to teach the inmates to use a community’s leisure facilities and outdoor areas. Many of the inmates are under 23 years old, and this new attitude will hopefully be of significant importance, when they themselves become parents.

Secondly, to offer an unyielding education, teaching them to level earth, prune trees and bushes, lay tiles and bud trees. Maybe the start of a new career?
This project will help Ringe State Prison in its objective, to not only ensure the sentence is served, but also to assist the inmates after their release.
