School Project in womens' crisis centre

About half the children at crisis centres are forced to interrupt their schooling while living there. These children are often unable to attend school, or are temporarily admitted to a local school nearby. These schools seldom have the necessary experience in teaching vulnerable children.

Violence has a noticeable effect on children – they are often left with deep psychological and physical scars. When arriving at Danner (Danish crisis centre), they often suffer from post-traumatic stress symptoms. Many have had poor schooling, and are in an extremely vulnerable situation.

Support from the Egmont Foundation aims at developing teaching methods, adapted for children in crisis, at the Danner Centre.

A crisis centre strengthens the children’s mind and psyche. However, they are often left behind in school after leaving the crisis centre, since their schooling has been neglected for a period.

The Egmont Foundation wishes to support Danner’s school project, enabling children in families affected by violence, to redirect their concentration to schooling, after leaving the crisis centre.
