Grief can leave children off balance
Serious illness, or loss of a parent or sibling, is a tremendous psychological strain for children. The Egmont Foundation has supported both therapy and research in this area.
Every year, more than 33.000 Danish children experience a loss close by. The Egmont Foundation has established “Løvehjerte” (Lion Heart) – an organisation that provides professional psychological help, free of charge, to young persons between 3 and 17 years old. Løvehjerte is based in the Egmont House in Copenhagen.
In addition, the Egmont Foundation has supported research about grieving children. What are the long-term consequences for children and adolescents who lose a parent? The”Centre for Crisis Psychology” in Bergen, Norway, is investigating just that question. Here, researchers test, develop and analyse methods to ensure that young persons get through these painful losses in the best possible way.
