Christmas care packages from the Egmont Foundation
17 december, 2009This week the Egmont Foundation sends out Christmas care packages to low income families in Denmark.
More than a hundred families will, this week, receive a package containing a gift certificate to use when shopping for Christmas dinner, and a book from Egmont's Danish children's book publisher Carlsen. This is the Egmont Foundation’s Christmas care package targeted at children.
In 2009, The Egmont Foundation has experienced an increased number of applications for the Christmas package but has been able to acoomodate all applications.
“During Christmas children in poor families suffer. It is difficult to celebrate Christmas when you have financial problems. In such a tough time these families need help given in a dignified manner. What we offer is a small contribution to sweeten the holidays”, says Henriette Christiansen, Director of the Egmont Foundation's Aid and grants administration.
The Christmas care packages consist of a gift certificate of 300 DKK for every member of the household and a book for every child in the household. The recipients are single providers with one or more minor children and monthly a max of 3900 dkr at their disposal. It is not possible for the families to apply themselves; they have to be nominated by a social authority.
Each year the Egmont Foundation donates over one million dkr to support single providers. This is done by providing Christmas care packages, holiday help and direct financial aid.
