Showcase for Egmont products

The annual Children's Book Fair in Bologna is the place where Egmont shows its products and makes new contacts.

In the exhibition centre in the northern Italian city of Bologna people from the book and magazine business around the world Monday gathered to network, meet, monitor, negotiate and sell. To Egmont having licensing agreements with major international companies such as Disney, Mattel and Hasbro, the fair is also a showcase.

"We are here to sell ourselves and show the rights we have," says Rikke Bjørn Elmenhoff, Global Marketing Manager at Egmont Publishing.

At the fair Egmont is in dialogue with the major licensors. Disney, Star Wars, Teletubbies, Minecraft and Trolls are some of the many brands to which Egmont has the rights, and Egmont has a large stand at the fair where the products are displayed to publishing professionals.

A marketplace for rights
There will also be new agreements signed at the fair. At the Egmont stand rights are sold to countries where Egmont is not represented. For example, books and manuals about the digital gaming universe Minecraft are sold to more than 60 countries.

Also Egmont's Star Wars products are a major international success with more than1.5 million books sold, and John Packard, publisher at Egmont Publishing, UK uses the fair to both internal and external meetings.

"I help our rights-team to present the Star Wars programme to international customers. I also use the fair to discuss the Star Wars programme with our sister companies. It can be difficult to share information when we are not in one office," says John Packard.

Egmont is represented in 30 countries worldwide and the fair in Bologna is also the place where international colleagues have a rare opportunity to meet.

"Therefore, it is in Bologna that we can give colleagues in all countries a shared information about our plans," adds Rikke Bjørn Elmenhoff.
