Nordisk Film dominates the Oscar race

Three of the nine films shortlisted in the Oscar category "Best Foreign Language Film" are produced or co-produced by Nordisk Film. "It shows how strong the talent is in the Nordic region," says managing director Allan Mathson Hansen, Nordisk Film.

Nordisk Film dominates the Oscar race. Three out of nine films shortlisted for an Oscar in the category "Best Foreign Language Film" are produced or co-produced by Nordisk Film.

From Denmark Martin Zandvliet's "Land of Mine" produced by Nordisk Film Production is shortlisted. "Land of Mine" premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in autumn 2015 and since it has travelled the world on major festivals and won a number of prizes. "Land of mine" is produced by Mikael Christian Rieks from Nordisk Film Production.

From Norway Erik Poppe's "The King's Choise" is shortlisted. The film starring Danish actor Jesper Christensen as the Norwegian King Haakon VII is produced by Paradox and co-produced by Nordisk Film.

From Sweden the comedy "A man named Ove" is shortlisted. The film has sold more than 1.5 million tickets in Sweden. It is based on Fredrik Backman's bestseller and produced by SF Studios and is co-produced by Nordisk Film.

"It is amazing that Nordisk Film has produced or co-produced three films from the Nordic countries now shortlisted for an Oscar. The films have sold three million tickets all together and received considerable international attention. Now they are contending for the World Cup in film. It shows how strong the talent is in Scandinavia. It also reflects the strategy of Nordisk Film to support the best and most important filmmakers in Scandinavia," says Allan Mathson Hansen, CEO of Nordisk Film.

The five nominations for the prestigious title as Best Foreign Language Film will be announced on 24 January. The 2017 winner will be announced 26 February.
