On 1 May 2003, Kim Magnusson from M & M Productions, takes up the position as General Manager of Nordisk Film’s Nordic film and TV drama production companies
Nordisk Film wants to produce more films, not only in Denmark but also in Norway, Sweden and Finland. Kim Magnusson, 37, one of the film industry’s most experienced and best known names, is determined to help the company achieve this ambition. On 1 May 2003, he will take up the new position as General Manager of Nordic film production for Nordisk Film.
Kim Magnusson has an extensive network in the Danish and international film industries. He is the Chairman of the Danish Producers’ Association, a position he has also held for the past four years for The Danish Film Academy, whose ROBERT awards in particular have gained much more clout and prominence in the film and media world.
Kim Magnusson, who you could say was born into the film world, comes from a position as managing director of M & M Productions, a production company he co-founded in 1995 with his father, Tivi Magnusson, after a variety of jobs in other production companies. M & M Productions, whose film “The Green Butchers” is currently showing in Danish cinemas, has been involved in a host of Danish and international productions including “The Island on Bird Street”, “Albert” and “Flickering Lights”. Down the years, Kim Magnusson has been associated with more than 50 feature films, TV dramas and programs, and commercials. He is also a member of the exclusive group of Danish film people who can boast of having given an Oscar® acceptance speech. This has happened twice for Kim: the first time was in 1999 for the short film Election Night with Anders Thomas Jensen and the second occasion was a month ago for another short film, The Charming Man. M & M Productions was also nominated in 1997 and 1998, with "Ernst & the Light" and "Wolfgang".
Kenneth D. Plummer, Managing Director of Nordisk Film, says: “Nordisk Film is working hard to regain dominance on film production in the Nordic region, based on our new organization, which has existed for just eight months. As in our founder Ole Olsen’s days, we embrace all elements of the value chain, focusing on broad entertainment. Sweden holds huge potential for us and Norway, Finland and Denmark likewise offer opportunities. The appointment of Kim Magnusson is a step in the right direction. He has a proven track record in Denmark and the USA, demonstrating a professional and market-oriented approach to film-making as an art form that is also anchored in the market economy.”
Kim Magnusson comments: “It’s hard for a film producer to turn down a position like this. Over the decades, Nordisk Film has achieved a unique position with the Danish TV and movie-going audiences, the polar bear being one of the most famous logos in the country! In addition, Nordisk Film and the management of its parent company Egmont are focusing on growth – also outside Denmark – and closer cooperation with Egmont’s other media. I’m looking forward to being part of this development.”
There will be no changes at M & M Productions with the exception that as of 1 May, Tivi Magnusson will be the company’s sole manager.
