Egmont acquires schoolbook publisher forlag Malling Beck

On 1 March, Egmont takes over the publishing activities of Malling Beck A/S, which will thus be the media group’s third schoolbook publisher in the Nordic countries. The schoolbook publisher has developed, produced and marketed educational materials since 1972. After Egmont’s acquisition the publishing activitivities will still continue under the name of forlag Malling Beck. The former owner will carry on the existing Malling Beck office supply business.

With the acquisition of forlag Malling Beck, Egmont wishes to strengthen its range of activities in the educational field in the Nordic countries. Egmont also owns the Danish educational publisher Alinea and Norwegian publisher Damm Undervisning, part of N. W. Damm & Søn.

”Egmont’s schoolbook publishing now comprises a wider spectrum of rights and competencies. We can also offer more opportunities to our employees, whose expertise and networks are the key asset in our business. Our broad scope strengthens the future development of titles and activities. The educational sector in the Nordic countries is one of Egmont’s key focus areas,” explains Tom Harald Jenssen, head of Egmont’s Books Division and a member of Group Management.

The acquisition will not cause any changes to forlag Malling Beck’s management, staff or cooperation with authors. The publishing house, which employs a staff of 26, will continue as an independent company at its present premises in Albertslund near Copenhagen. forlag Malling Beck has profiled itself as a publisher of educational material covering the subjects of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. The publication program, which includes well-known series such as Sigma, Faktor, Prisma and Natek, will continue unchanged. Lars Tindholdt, founder and Publishing Director of the company since 1972, will be Managing Director after the acquisition. He comments:

”We are very satisfied. Egmont encompasses a wide variety of media companies, and the Books Division includes educational and children’s publishers in the Nordic countries. We are looking forward to exchanging experiences and cooperating with other Egmont companies in the fields of printed and electronic publishing. Working with the body of experience that Egmont represents strengthens forlag Malling Beck.”
