Egmont commands a strong position in children’s music in Sweden and Norway. Elisabeth Brinch, Marketing Manager, has worked for Egmont Serieforlaget in Norway since 1995.
“My job is to manage and run our record company, which publishes children’s music and audiobooks. We go to great lengths with every publication to give each specific product the perfect launch. In this fast-paced business you have to stay abreast of the huge developments in digital distribution via the Internet, mp3-players and cell phones.
“The best things about my job are that no two days are alike and I’m always learning something new. It’s tremendously rewarding to work with such high quality products that I can vouch for wholeheartedly and can see bring pleasure to so many people. My children Ida (7) and Jonas (5) are my main sources of inspiration. I’m forever running my own private market surveys to keep up with their changing tastes and interests.
“I’m immensely proud to be able to work with such wholesome and educational products that give great pleasure. There’s nothing dangerous or scary about them – everyone has a positive relationship with music and audiobooks. I feel really proud when I tell people what I do, and they almost invariably say ‘Oh, how fascinating!’
“It’s simply impossible not to get new ideas when you work with music for children. Trends always develop so quickly when it comes to the new artists, characters and concepts that capture the hearts of children, and to the way you have to ‘serve’ the products to them. Despite the eternal appeal of the classics, we’d soon lag way behind if we didn’t devote enough resources to keeping abreast of the constant avalanche of new ideas.”
