Keeping up with new trends

Hanne Høiberg has worked for Egmont Magasiner in Hellerup, Denmark, for 16 years. She is editor-in-chief of Denmark’s leading women’s weekly, ALT for damerne.

“I run what you might call a multipurpose store for and with women. I’m responsible for the overall strategic line, hiring employees, making sure we stick to the budget, discussing content and headings, writing cover copy, TV ads and hosting the many events organized by ALT for damerne.

“ALT for damerne’s success in maintaining its position as Denmark’s biggest women’s weekly is due largely to the professionalism of our editorial team, who understand our readers and have an amazing ability to keep smiling even in bad times. Their enthusiasm rubs off on the product, imbuing it with a character that sets it apart from the average off-the-peg item. To us, the editorial team, creativity is about getting practical experience, factual information and zany ideas to meld together into a seamless whole.

“I rarely get inspiration at my desk. More often I get ideas when I’m traveling, in a city, for example, when I suddenly spot something that sparks off a chain of thought. Or at a spirited editorial meeting where we bandy ideas back and forth.

“The best thing about my job is sensing the enthusiasm of an editorial team all working towards a common goal – modernizing ALT for damerne to make sure it remains Denmark’s trendiest women’s weekly after almost 60 years.”
