Monday night 1.100 people got the opportunity to see “Karen Blixen – Out of this World” before everyone else. But it was an extraordinary evening for the guest of honour, Tumbo.
Karen Blixen left Tumbo in Africa when she moved back to Denmark in 1931; ever since then he has been dreaming about visiting Blixen’s home country.
His dream came true at the world premiere of the film about Karen Blixen, where Tumbo was prominently seated among excited guests and journalists from all over Europe, USA and Japan.
Tumbo was born in 1918 and helped Blixen out on the farm in Africa. Unlike rest of the staff, who lived in the nearby village, Tumbo lived on the farm and had a very close relationship with Karen Blixen. Today, Tumbo lives with his youngest son, Majid, and his family in a village at Ngong Hills. Majid excorted his father to Danmark and acted as interpreter.
“Karen Blixen – Out of this World” is broadcast on DR1 on Sunday, October 2nd at 20.00.
