Two new cinemas acquired by Nordisk Film

Dagmar Teatret and Kinopalæet have been sold to Nordisk Film, which now owns 16 cinemas in 11 Danish cities.

Since 1939, Dagmar Teatret has been an institution amongst movie-goers in Copenhagen. In a short period of time, Kinopalæet in Lyngby has become a success north of Copenhagen, where Nordisk Film Cinemas has wanted to establish itself for a long time. The goal is now to strengthen the two cinemas even further and ensure a varied, high quality movie program for guests with a passion for the movies.

“Dagmar and Kinopalæet complement our other cinemas very well and strengthen our competitive edge. Furthermore, the additional theatres provide us with an better opportunity to tighten up the repertoire in the cinemas. In cooperation with the distributors of both Hollywood movies and Danish productions, we will get more flexibility to give the good movies the space on the programme that they deserve in Copenhagen” emphasizes John Tønnes, Managing Director of the Cinemas.

Managing Director of Nordisk Film Michael Ritto adds: “The expansion of the cinema chain falls in line with Nordisk Film’s strategy of growth, which focuses on a solid presence in the cinema market, and with our continuous focus on developing and obtaining the best rights within movies, games and music”.

Kim Vestergaard, Managing Director of Sandrew Metronome, expects Dagmar Teatret and Kinopalæet to continue holding the position, they have obtained in the market, under the new management – to the satisfaction of employees, customers and suppliers: “Both cinemas have contributed to great movie experiences in the past, and hopefully they will continue to do so in the future,” he says.

As a consequence of the sale, Sandrew Metronome withdraws completely from the cinema market. This means that approximately 45% of Danish movie tickets will be sold in Nordisk Film Cinemas in the future.
