Stieg Larsson´s Crime Trilogy to the movies
Larsson’s successful novel-trilogy is now being filmed with Nordisk Film as partner and distributor. The Danish director Niels Arden Oplev will direct with Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace as leading actors.
Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace play the main characters as Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander in the screen adaptation of the fantastically popular trilogy by Stieg Larsson; “Men Who Hate Women”, “The Girl Who Plays with Fire” and “The Air Castle that blew up.”
The Danish director Niels Arden Oplev will direct the first movie “Men Who Hate Women”, which will premiere in all the Nordic countries during 2009.
The production of the three movies will begin in the spring of 2008. The movie “Men Who Hate Women” will be distributed to the cinemas by Nordisk Film in all the Nordic countries. The two movies based on the novels “The Girl Who Plays with Fire” and “The Air Castle that blew up” are shown on Swedish television and distributed on DVD by Nordisk Film to the Nordic countries.
Rasmus Heisterberg and Nikolaj Arcel are writing the script for the first and second movie. Formerly, they have worked together on the movies “King’s Game” and “The Island of Lost Souls” – both directed by Nikolaj Arcel. The script to the third film will be written by Ulf Rybjerg.
The movies are produced by the Swedish production company Yellow Bird and have a budget of approx. DKK 80 mio. Yellow Bird has also produced the “Wallander” movies with Krister Henriksson as the leading actor as well as the TV-drama “Lasermannen.” Co-producers are Sveriges Television, Nordisk Film and ZDF Enterprises.
The excellent trilogy of Stieg Larsson has sold almost two million copies in Sweden alone and has topped the sales charts in both Denmark and Norway. Furthermore, the trilogy is very successful in both Germany and France as well as in the rest of Europe.
