Nordisk Film receives two Academy Awards nominations

“Helmer & Son”, produced by Nordisk Film and directed by Søren Pilmark, has been nominated for an Academy Award in the category Best Short Film. “After the Wedding”, distributed by Nordisk Film and directed by Susanne Bier, has been nominated for Best Foreign Language Movie.

“Helmer & Son” has been produced by Nordisk Film as a part of the company’s strategy to develop new talent. The director, producers and script writers consist of newcomers in their respective fields in Danish film, firmly backed by Managing Director of Nordisk Film’s movie production Kim Magnusson, who himself is an Oscar winner and three-time nominee.

Kim Magnusson says: “It is a great honor that Søren Pilmark has been nominated! At the same time, this is also a big compliment for the effort to develop new talent, which we in Nordisk Film have been working for in the past couple of years.”

“After the Wedding” is up against worthy opponents such as “The lives of other” and “Pan’s Labyrinth” – but surprisingly, Pedro Almodóvar’s much acclaimed “Volver” has not received a nomination.

It is only the sixth time, a Danish movie has been nominated for an Oscar – the list includes Nordisk Film greats such as “Qivitoq”, “Babette’s Feast” and “Pelle the Conqueror”.
