Today marks a new era in Danish media history. Nordisk Film and the Danish TV station, TV2, opens an extensive on- line video store through TV2’s broadband service, TV2 Sputnik which will make it possible for film lovers to select between 275 different titles on www.sputnik.dk while sitting at home.
Amongst the premier films on TV2 Sputnik is everything from the Danish film “Brødre” to “Olsen Banden” and “Kill Bill” as well as dozens of children’s films. The 275 film titles are both Danish and international, all provided by Nordisk Film.
TV2 and Nordisk Film established TV2 Sputnik in December 2004. The new virtual video store which can be found on www.sputnik.dk and on TV2’s site is a supplement to TV2 Sputnik’s offering of TV programs from TV2, TV2 Charlie and TV2 Zulu.
“Our hope is that TV2 Sputnik will encourage more people to see films and thereby extend the market. The ambition is that the technology will be so invisible that everyone, not only geeks, can use it. The last couple of weeks 50 families have tested the system and according to them, the technique isn’t more complicated than using a DVD. I hope Sputnik will be many Danes’ first experience with purchase over the internet”, says Mikkel Berg, Vice President of Nordisk Film.
