The three partners behind Respirator; Omar Marzouk, Chris D. Nørgaard and Michael Pedersen, have a large network in the comedy business in Denmark as well as abroad. They have now joined up to concentrate on using these opportunities to create humor across borders and user interfaces in cooperation with Nordisk Film. Nordisk Film owns 50.1% of the new company, whose ambition is to create international and Danish comedy hit-formats for all media platforms.
Omar Marzouk of Respirator states: “Nordisk Film and Egmont are the perfect basis for our ambitions, as they are already active on all media platforms. We believe that good stories can be told on all platforms, and that the future doesn’t lie in focusing only on, e.g., the possibilities in TV alone, but rather in making sure that a success in one platform can spread to others. Whether we are working on a feature film, a computer game or a TV series isn’t the most important thing – what matters is good stories and innovation.”
Jacob Houlind, Nordic Manager of Nordisk Film TV, will act as Chairman of th Board in Respirator. He says: “The whole comedy area is experiencing rapid growth globally and the opportunities to combine genres are many. At the same time, comedy has great potential in relation to the new platforms, as we have seen with “Borat”, for instance. Nordisk Film wants to attract the best creative talents, and this wish has definitely been granted with Respirator as part of our environment at Nordisk Film in Valby”.
Respirator is already well under way with their first projects. One of them is aired on DR2, at the moment. It is the satire show “Tjenesten (The Service)”, which is the TV version of a popular radio show on DR’s P3. The company will be located at Nordisk Film in Valby.
