In Nordisk Film’s anniversary vote, everyone who loves the movies has the opportunity to vote one of the productions from the Nordisk Film treasure trove back onto the big screen during the polar bear’s centennial in 2006. “Martha” won our third anniversary vote with 14% of the votes cast. It was followed by “Terkel in Trouble”, which received 12% of the votes.
”Martha” has cult-like status
As a result of the movie’s cult-like popularity, several Martha-clubs exist in Denmark. One of them belongs to a bar in Svendborg, where the original messroom from “Martha” is replicated in the interior of the establishment. The owner of the bar, Launy Lindahl, believes that Martha’s great popularity is a result the film’s authenticity. “Everyone likes our ‘Martha room.’ Even the officers’ crew of the royal yacht, Dannebrog, come in for a visit, when the ship is in Svendborg. And they report that the movie is also popular entertainment on the royal yacht,” says Launy Lindahl.
Free ”Martha” screening in Nordisk Film cinemas, Sunday 4 June
The comedy takes place on the good ship ”Martha”, which sails for a Greek ship owner. ”Martha” is all but forgotten, when the ship’s Danish owner suddenly shows up – and the fun begins. The movie’s cast includes classic Danish actors Ove Sprogøe, Poul Hagen, Morten Grunwald and Lilly Weiding. The ambiance of the sailors’ life is very accurately depicted. The movie is filmed on location in and around Pireus – and everyone – man and mouse – have a great time on board “Martha”.
The people’s vote for movie classics continues
Each month during 2006 will feature a text-message vote, which will result in the choice for the anniversary movie of the month. The following cinemas have free screenings every first Sunday of the month for the rest of the year: Palads in Copenhagen, all Danish BioCity-cinemas, BioCenter Kolding, and Grand Teatret in Randers. Specific screening time schedules can be obtained in the local cinema.
The first anniversary movies in April and May were seen by about 10,000 movie-goers. The vote for the fourth movie is already in progress and continues until June 10.
