Healthy snacks at the movies

In 2007, Nordisk Film Cinemas will test the market for healthy alternatives to their supply of candy, popcorn and soft drinks.

The cinemas are currently starting up a pilot project to test sales of certain types of fruits and vegetables in their concession stands. It would be things such as small bags of sugersnap peas, baby carrots, fresh fruit slices, dried fruits, etc.

Managing Director in the cinemas, John Tønnes, emphasizes that the healthy snacks are simply an extra offer: ”We gladly maintain that our cinemas are places where people takes time off from their busy schedules and are free to eat as much candy and popcorn and drink as many soft drinks as they please. A limited assortment of fruits and veggies are simply a possible development according to market trends – in line with what we have previously done by adding sugar-free candy and soft drinks and bottled water to our supply.”

The healthy snack tests will be conducted in a few Nordisk Film cinemas in the major Danish cities. Time will tell whether the new alternatives will be just as successful as the sugar-free soft drinks and the bottled water, which currently make up about 50% of the total sale of beverages in Nordisk Film’s cinemas.
