“Movie projects evolve differently and in a wide variety of ways. But the process usually starts with a good idea that gets turned into a story film script. We subsequently raise funds through film institutes, TV stations and self-financing. Then we put together a team composed of a director, camera crew, light and sound guys, plus the actors, of course, who translate the film script into moving images.
“Postproduction is where we assemble the movie – in other words, cut it together, add music and, last but not least, the all-important soundtrack. This is also the process that transforms the movie into a feature film, a motion picture produced in many copies so audiences can enjoy it where it should be seen – in the movie theater.
“For me creativity is mainly about being curious and being 100% present. If you are curious and present in the moment, you can think in new ways. A good story can have an amazing number of motifs, but above all movies are about feelings. If a story moves me emotionally, it’s a good story in my opinion. The film medium can be extremely powerful and compelling. Helping to give movie-goers an experience makes me feel great, a feeling I associate with a certain sense of pride.
“Essentially, the biggest movie-making challenge is to get all the elements to gel into a whole. Actual movie production is a complex process where anything can go wrong. So keeping sight of the overall vision from concept to finished movie is an enormous challenge. The most exciting part of being a producer is working closely with a host of incredibly talented people who all love making movies.”
