Norwegian publishing merger approved by the competition authorities

The merger between Egmont’s publishing house Damm and Bonnier’s publishing house Cappelen in Norway, which was first announced 11 June, is now a formal reality as the Norwegian competitive authorities have approved the merger.

The name of the new company will be Cappelen Damm and with the merger the publishing house is the largest publishing house in the Norwegian book business. In 2006, the publishing houses in Damm and Cappelen published more than 1,200 titles in all genres and generated revenues of EUR 187,5 million (NOK 1,500 million).

Damm’s present Managing Director, Tom Harald Jenssen is Managing Director of the new publishing house which will be owned by Egmont (50%) and Bonnier (50%).
The book store chain Tanum, which Damm acquired in 2006, will be part of the new joint venture. Sentraldistribusjon ANS, Damm Direkte AS and Maps Solution AS are also part of the merger.
Cappelen Damm is expected to generate a revenue of EUR 188 million (NOK 1,500 million) in 2007.
