Knud Romer wins prestigious award

Novelist Knud Romer from the Aschehoug imprint Athene has won the prestigious Danish book award “De Gyldne Laurbær” for his novel “Den som blinker er bange for døden”.

The award is handed out by the Association of Danish Bookstores. It is given to a writer “whose latest novel in the booksellers’ opinion will gain a place in literature and deserves appreciation and encouragement which booksellers through this manifestation can contribute to”.

“Den som blinker er bange for døden” was published in June 2006 and is Knud Romers debut as a novelist. It has already sold 19,000 copies in Denmark, and so far the novel has been sold to 7 countries. In November Knud Romer won the “best new writer”-award on the Copenhagen bookfair Bogforum and he is also nominated for another major Danish book award “Weekendavisens Litteraturpris 2006”.

Knud Romer is the 58th winner of “De Gyldne Laurbær”.
