Egmont Funds the Baltic Countries’ New Film School

The Danish-based Nordic Baltic Film Fund – established by Nordisk Film – donates over 1.1 million euros to a new film school.

The three Baltic Countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania announce the establishment of the joint Baltic Film and Media School in Tallinn, Estonia from 2006 during this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The new school will provide English language postgraduate level education in all major film professions and audiovisual media.

The school’s financial foundation comes from the Nordic Baltic Film Fund that was founded by Nordisk Film fourteen years ago. The Fund has brought about many activities but is now giving way to the new film school.

Through several years Egmont has been behind five companies in the Baltic countries including two in the film industry: subsidiary companies of the internationally acclaimed animated film company, A. Film, who has contributed to animated films like “Help! I’m a fish”

Chairman of the board in the Nordic Baltic Film Fund and Senior Vice President in Egmont, Søren Jakobsen says: “We know that there are many talents in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and we’re looking forward to seeing the results of the many new opportunities that these talents are now given. The new school will hopefully lead to more filmmakers with stories to tell”.

Earlier, Egmont has been behind companies in the Baltic countries including a film company that contributed to animated films like “Help! I’m a fish”. Now Egmont is funding a film school in the Baltic countries.
