Egmont to launch in USA

Egmont UK announced today that it will launch a US publishing company in January 2008. Egmont USA will employ a publishing team based in New York. Its launch list of quality young adult and children’s fiction and picture books will be published in Autumn 2009.
Egmont USA’s focus will be on delivering a list shaped for the USA from both established and new authors. Egmont's list will be sold across all key market sectors with a focus on trade, school and library markets.

Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Egmont UK, Rob McMenemy comments:
“We are the only top ten UK publisher without a US presence. A UK and USA office would improve the opportunities for Egmont Press in the UK to acquire significant new properties. Like our competitors we will be able to consider joint acquisitions and leverage two markets to find the advance in a climate where advances are becoming increasingly large. We will be better placed to demand worldwide rights, where we see the opportunity, and we will extend our network of agents and authors, further expanding the product funnel.”
