Biggest in Russia

Did you know that Egmont is Russia’s largest children’s publisher? And ranks among this vast country’s top ten largest publishing houses? Egmont Russia leads the children’s publishing market after capturing all the niches from coloring and activity books to news articles and fiction by Russian and foreign authors. The company ranks generally among the top ten Russian publishers, sharing first place among children’s publishers with the Rosman company, which boasts Harry Potter in its constellation of titles.

Number 1 ranking
Egmont Russia is the only publisher to have won an Oscar, the most prestigious annual award on the Russian book market, in the category “Best Children’s Book”. In the magazine segment, the Egmont Russia position is indisputable: 20 titles with a circulation exceeding 1.5 million make the company a resounding number 1.

Space to let loose
Disney and Mattel products account for a large portion of the company’s portfolio but local comic brands such as Smeshariki and Luntik are growing fast. For example, the monthly magazine, Smeshariki, with a monthly circulation figure of 135,000, ranks number four, hard on the heels of Barbie, Disney’s Princess and W.I.T.C.H., while the other monthly, Luntik, first published in September, is hoped to record a circulation of 100,00 by the end of the year.

By all indications Egmont Russia will increase its revenue by 50% in 2007 compared with last year. The company is now working not only with Russia but is also looking to repeat its growth success in other countries. Managing director and Vice President of Egmont International, Lev Yelin, has recently been made responsible for business development in the former Soviet republics, with the exception of the Ukraine and the Baltic states.
