The Egmont Foundation works actively and continuously to adapt its charitable activities to the needs uncovered by changing circumstances in society, which call for an extra measure of support. Therefore, just like those initiatives Egmont instigates on its own, the projects that receive support are characterised by a high degree of innovation. Openness and foresight are important prerequisites for being able to develop and carry out effective new models and methods, which can serve as examples to follow and thus benefit many more people.
Egmont's charitable activities are concentrated on initiatives that can help provide lasting improvements for children and young people.
In the social and health area, Egmont prioritises in particular those initiatives that seek to reduce and, if possible, prevent the marginalisation of children who are disadvantaged for one reason or another.
In terms of education and leisure, efforts are concentrated on initiatives that address and develop curiosity, imagination and creativity. This approach stimulates a broad range of learning and strengthens new ways of acquiring knowledge, thus helping to develop the communication skills of children and young people.
The main purpose of Egmont's charitable activities is to promote the necessary and desirable development to ensure a nurturing environment for children and young people in their formative years.
Egmont has chosen to emphasise early intervention on the theory that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" - that successful prevention can eliminate the need for more complex and often more expensive remedies at a later point.
In 2007, Egmont donated EUR 5.2 million to 43 projects and supported more than 300 single-parent families. One of the year’s donations supported research into the hardships of disadvantaged 15-24 year-olds, and another a study of the problems facing children of Danish prison inmates.
